久しぶりに日本に帰ってくるたびに、この国では「発泡酒」とか「第３のビール」とか不思議なアルコール飲料が登場して「ブーム」になっております。これすべて、税制に起因している現象で、一通り飲んでみれば分かりますが、「おいしいから売れている」わけではありません。また、麦芽以外の原料が、麦芽に比べてずっと割安、ということでもないでしょう。ひとえに、麦芽の比率で税率が変わる、つまり「おいしいものに高税率、まずいものに低税率」を課すという、信じがたい日本のビール税ゆえの現象であります。

一方のビール会社も、恐ろしいほどの醸造技術力で、大豆からでもエンドウ豆からでも、課税回避のためにビールに限りなく近い製品を次々と作り出します。「モノ作りニッポン」の面目躍如という感があります。そのうち「生ゴミからビール」とか出てくるんではないかと思います。しかし、何と無意味な技術開発競争ではないでしょうか。麦芽で作れば済むだけの話です。モノ作りニッポンには、こういうアホらしいガラパゴス技術が結構ありますな。
